Welcome to another exciting, musical year at Sistema Toronto! We're so excited to get back into the classroom to inspire our students towards discoveries, triumphs, and growth throughout another great year of programming. With the beginning of a new year comes updates and additions to our program that are sure to make this year a truly remarkable one.

October 2023: Inclusivity at Sistema Toronto

Sistema Toronto is first and foremost a social development program; we see music education as a catalyst for creating transformative social change. Inclusivity in our programming and classrooms is paramount to our mission - we do everything we can to make sure our classrooms are safe spaces for all students to explore, create, and express themselves.

November 2023: An Interview with Juanita Muise

In October, Juanita Muise — musician, and Indigenous Engagement Coordinator at the University of Toronto Scarborough — joined students at Sistema Toronto - Scarborough to teach them about Indigenous music and drumming, and to speak about the significance of music to her culture. After the workshop, we sat down with Juanita to talk about her lifelong relationship with music and the impact she hopes to have as a music educator.

January 2024: Exploring Beauty in Music Education

In September, Sistema Toronto's Centre Directors, along with several representatives from the admin team, travelled to Chicago to attend the Fire Up! Retreat, hosted by the Academy for Impact Through Music (AIM). Using ideas from this retreat, our teaching artists were invited to pursue a 6-week experiment where they explored the idea of beauty in performances by beginners musicians.
